Biography:

Assoc. Prof. Pavel Brdlík, Ph.D., is a researcher and academic in polymer engineering, specialising in the design and processing of plastics, polymer composites, and biodegradable materials. His research interests include the design of plastic parts, polymer processing technologies, the development and characterisation of plastics and composites, bioplastic biodegradation, and innovation in polymer engineering. He has served as a principal investigator or co-investigator in a number of research and applied projects focused on polymer materials and processing technologies. His research on the biodegradation of bioplastics has resulted in widely cited scientific publications. At the Technical University of Liberec, he teaches courses in polymer processing simulation, plastics-processing machinery, and the design and dimensioning of plastic parts.

Lecture [1]

Date & Time: 10/19 (Mon) 10:10 am

Venue:  Innovation Room (93416), Department of Chemical Engineering, NCKU

Title:  Biodegradation of Bioplastics

Abstract:

This lecture introduces the complex topic of bioplastics, with particular emphasis on biodegradable and compostable plastics. Students will gain an overview of the role of bioplastics in relation to economic considerations and waste-management systems. The lecture will explain the differences between bio-based, biodegradable, and compostable plastics; discuss the main biodegradation environments; and outline the factors that affect degradation behaviour. It will also present commonly used methods for evaluating biodegradation and compostability, together with relevant standards and certification schemes.

Lecture [2]

Date & Time :10/27 (Tue) 11:10 am.

Venue: Innovation Room (93416), Department of Chemical Engineering, NCKU

Title: Use of Mold Flow Analysis for the Design of Plastic Parts

Abstract:

This lecture introduces the design of plastic parts for injection moulding, the most widely used technology for polymer processing. Students will become familiar with key design aspects that influence part quality, manufacturability, and production efficiency. The lecture will present case studies from industrial practice and discuss the importance of simulation tools, particularly mold flow analysis, in predicting material flow, potential defects, and process-related challenges.
