University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT) Visits Interested Czech Universities (ICU)

UAAT delegation with participants from the University of West Bohemi
In December 2025, the University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT) led a delegation of 12 member universities to visit the Interested Czech Universities (ICU) in the Czech Republic again. The five host universities included Metropolitan University Prague (MUP), the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (UCT Prague), the Technical University of Liberec (TUL), the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (UWB), and Charles University’s Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen (CU-FMP). This marked the second exchange following the 2024 visit, continuing to deepen higher education collaboration between Taiwan and the Czech Republic.
The delegation’s itinerary began on December 8 with a bilateral integrated project symposium held at Charles University. During the event, project Investigators from the humanities and arts(National Chengchi University), social sciences, engineering and technology(National Tsing Hua University), and Chinese language fields(National Chengchi University) presented the project content and outcomes. The implementation of these projects has enabled both parties to build a stable foundation for collaboration, and they now anticipate broader opportunities and meaningful results in the future.
On the evening of December 8 during this visit, UAAT Secretariat arranged the Czech–Taiwan Faculty and Student Exchange & Talent Networking Dinner. In this event, UAAT delegation, ICU scholars participated in the integrated projects, as well as Taiwanese scholars and students based in the Czech Republic gathered together in a warm and relaxed dinner setting to exchange experiences and share insights. The dinner also welcomed Prof. Eva Voldřichová Beránková, then Vice-Rector for International Affairs at Charles University, Professor Ting-Fu Hung, Director of the Science and Technology Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Czech Republic, together with his colleagues. Through the networking event, connections between UAAT, Czech partner scholars and Taiwanese scholars and students residing in the Czech Republic were further strengthened, while also broadening the vision and possibilities for future collaboration.

From December 9 to December 11, the delegation visited ICU member universities. Activities included general introduction of both sides and visits to key research units within ICU member institutions. These engagements were designed to deepen mutual understanding between the two alliances. The UAAT Fair was also held, featuring booth exhibitions and face-to-face interactions to facilitate in-depth interaction and practical connections between Taiwanese and Czech faculty and students.
In addition, the ICU is an important partner in UAAT’s International Young Scholars Visiting Program. Among the 40 approved scholars, 17 are associated with ICU, demonstrating the close and active engagement between the two sides. During this visit, the delegation also actively promoted the program, aiming to attract more Czech scholars to participate and further strengthen research collaboration and talent development links.
Through diverse visits activities and interactions, the UAAT delegation reached a shared understanding, further discussed future modes of collaboration, and established the foundation for a long-term and stable partnership.

Overall, this visit not only consolidated existing achievements but also further expanded the cooperation network, laying a strong foundation for a long-term, stable, and impactful academic partnership between Taiwan and the Czech Republic. During the exchanges, members of the delegation engaged in in-depth and productive discussions with Czech scholars. At the same time, Czech students expressed strong interest in participating in exchange programs in Taiwan, indicating significant potential for bilateral talent mobility.
Through these interactions, the delegation also gained a deeper understanding of ICU member institutions’ research strengths across multiple fields, including social sciences, chemical technology applications, artificial intelligence applications, and medical research. These exchanges provided valuable insights that will help both sides consider how to integrate their respective research strengths in these areas, fostering closer international collaboration and pursuing breakthrough outcomes.
The valuable experiences and information gained from this visit will serve as an important reference for UAAT’s continued efforts to deepen international collaboration. They will also support future strategic planning and implementation in key areas of innovation, thereby continuously enhancing the visibility and global impact of Taiwan’s higher education on the international stage.
