2025 UTS–UAAT Call for proposals: Integrated Collaboration Project in Health Sciences

To strengthen academic collaboration between Taiwan and the United States, promote cross-institutional exchange, and foster interdisciplinary talent with global and ethical perspectives, Taipei Medical University (TMU) cordially invites faculty members from UAAT member universities to submit subproject proposals under the 2025 UAAT–UTS (University of Texas System) Integrated Project in Health Sciences.

1. Project Themes
Applicants are encouraged to develop innovative and impactful proposals under one or more of the following thematic areas:

  1. Precision Health and AI-Assisted Diagnosis
  2. Drug Development and Clinical Trial Collaboration
  3. Medical Ethics and Health Policy Research

 

2. Eligibility

  1. Each team must include at least two UAAT member universities and one UTS (University of Texas System) institution.
  2. Team Member Duplication Restriction:If over half of the sub-project team members overlap across two or more sub-projects within or between integrated projects, only one proposal will be approved.
  3. Eligibility of Principal and Co-Principal Investigators:All PIs and Co-PIs must be full-time faculty or research personnel officially employed by their affiliated institution for the duration of the project. This requirement also applies to scholars from international partner institutions.
  4. Application Limitation per Applicant:Each individual may participate in no more than two proposals as a PI or Co-PI. This rule also applies to scholars from international partner institutions.
  5. Award Limitation per Applicant:Following the review process, each applicant may be awarded funding for only one project as PI, and a maximum of two projects in total as PI or Co-PI. This rule also applies to scholars from international partner institutions.

 

3. Funding Information

  1. Each awarded subproject will receive a grant of no less than NT$1.5 million, with the final amount determined based on the scope and quality of the proposal.
  2. Up to four subprojects are expected to be funded, with emphasis on both innovation and capacity-building.
  3. Proposals featuring cross-institutional, international, and interdisciplinary collaboration will be prioritized, especially those aligned with international funding frameworks such as NIH or Horizon Europe.

 

4. Application Process & Deadline

  1. Proposals must follow the required application format (see Attachment 1) and be written in English.
  2. Completed proposals (Word or PDF format) should be submitted via email to the designated account.
  3. Submission deadline: Thursday, August 7, 2025, by 23:59 (GMT+8).

 

5. Supplementary Documents
For projects involving human or animal trial, applicants who have not yet received formal IRB/IACUC approval may submit documentation confirming the review is in progress. Approved documentation must be submitted upon completion.

 

6. Review Process
Proposals will undergo a two-stage review process: initial (written) and final (panel meeting). Results will be announced in early September and used to inform integration and final funding decisions.

 

7. Funding Guidelines

  1. Budget Regulations:Budget planning and expenditure should follow the relevant operational guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education.
  2. Support for International Talent Programs:
    To promote and jointly advance the “MOE Professionalization Project of Employment Counseling for International Students in Taiwan Higher Education,”(促進國際生來臺暨留臺實施計畫) integrated project proposals are encouraged to include components related to the development of new types of international programs. These may cover expenses such as student recruitment activities, scholarships, living allowances, and faculty supervision fees.
