University Academic Alliance in Taiwan Annual Forum

  To highlight the achievements and outcomes of international collaboration under the University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT). The Alliance Secretariat held the “University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT) Annual Forum” on November 28, 2025, at the First Conference Room of the Administration Building, National Taiwan University. The event brought together representatives from the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, integrated project teams, and international young scholars to jointly mark this significant milestone in advancing inter-university, interdisciplinary, and global collaboration.

  The program commenced with opening remarks from Wen-Chang Chen, President of National Taiwan University and convener of the Alliance, who noted that by integrating the research capabilities of 12 universities and their international partner institutions, the Alliance has successfully established a collaboration platform with strong global visibility. This was followed remarks from Kao-Hsien Liao, Director-General of the Department of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education, who commended the Alliance’s concrete contributions to strengthening international academic partnerships, attracting outstanding global talent, and enhancing Taiwan’s competitiveness in key research domains.

  Dr. Chung-Chih Wu, Vice President for Research and Development at NTU and Executive Director of the Secretariat, subsequently delivered an overview of the UAAT Secretariat’s achievements. His presentation outlined the Secretariat’s efforts and accomplishments in advancing international research collaboration, talent development, and global engagement.

  During the poster exhibition session, Dr. Wu guided Director-General Liao and President Chen through the featured project displays. Faculty members provided in-depth briefings on their respective projects, complemented by on-site screening of achievement videos, enabling participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of the scope, implementation, and tangible outcomes of each initiative.

  The event also included presentations by international young scholars currently visiting Taiwan under the UAAT’s Support. They shared insights into their experiences in research collaboration, academic exchange, and public engagement during their stay. Through its short-term visiting scholar program, the UAAT has demonstrated notable success in attracting promising early-career researchers, fostering substantive collaboration with domestic scholars, and elevating Taiwan’s visibility within the global academic community. The program continues to expand opportunities for international exchange and cross-border collaboration.

  In the session dedicated to integrated project highlights and experience sharing, principal investigators or university representatives from the 12 participating universities presented their respective areas of collaboration, key research achievements, innovative contributions, and experiences in cross-institutional cooperation. These presentations not only emphasized the distinctive strengths and academic expertise of each institution across diverse disciplines but also highlighted the UAAT’s role as an effective integrative platform for resource sharing and knowledge exchange. The session further stimulated dynamic discussions, encouraging the development of future interdisciplinary and international partnerships.

  The event concluded with a panel discussion focusing on the UAAT’s future development, strategies for deepening international collaboration, and challenges encountered during project implementation. Through constructive dialogue and the exchange of perspectives, participants generated valuable insights to support the UAAT’s continued advancement toward more forward-looking and sustainable international cooperation.

Closing Discussion

  A networking reception followed, providing participants with the opportunity to engage in further dialogue, exchange views on research directions, and explore potential collaborative opportunities, thereby strengthening inter-university and interdisciplinary linkages.

It not only showcased the UAAT’s current achievements, but also highlighted the proactive engagement and pivotal role of Taiwan’s higher education system within the global academic network. Looking ahead, the UAAT will continue to work closely with international partners to advance impactful research and talent development, deepen cross-border collaboration and exchange, and further expand Taiwan’s connections and influence in the international academic community.
