KOOU Delegation Visits Taiwan to Strengthen Higher Education Cooperation
The Kyushu Okinawa Open University Alliance (KOOU) delegation visited Taiwan from March 26 to 27,2026 for a two-day program. The delegation comprised representatives from Kyushu University, Kumamoto University, Nagasaki University, and the University of the Ryukyus. During the visit, the delegation met with the Secretariat of the University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT) and conducted exchanges with the Office of International Affairs at National Taiwan University, and, on March 27, proceeded to National Chengchi University for roundtable discussions and a campus tour.
The primary purpose of the visit was to further strengthen collaboration between KOOU and UAAT. Since signing an MOU in 2024, both alliances have advanced talent exchange and research collaboration, with strong engagement over the past two years through Integrated Collaboration Project and International Young Visiting Scholar Program. The visit aims to strengthen administrative connections through experience sharing, with the goal of building stable long-term partnerships and expanding diverse future collaboration opportunities.
On the first day, the UAAT Secretariat hosted the delegation and provided a comprehensive overview of the alliance’s operational framework, including coordination of academic programs among member institutions, promotion of cross-border collaboration, and the implementation of key ongoing initiatives. Both sides also engaged in substantive discussions on challenges encountered during project execution, exchanging insights and best practices.
In the afternoon, the Office of International Affairs at National Taiwan University hosted a session featuring discussions and group exchanges. They shared practical experience in supporting international students and scholars, promoting international collaboration, and building a bilingual campus environment, thereby providing the delegation with a more comprehensive understanding of Taiwan’s higher education internationalization strategies.
On March 27, the delegation visited National Chengchi University, a member institution of UAAT, where a roundtable meeting and group discussion were convened. Discussions addressed key topics including services for international students and researchers, administrative internationalization, public relations, student mobility, and inter-university collaboration. Through breakout sessions, participants conducted in-depth exchanges on practical implementation and explored prospective avenues for future cooperation. The delegation also participated in a guided campus tour, gaining a deeper understanding of National Chengchi University’s history, spirit, campus environment, and academic features.
The visit concluded with a tour of the NTU Museum of Medical Humanities. A Japanese-language guided tour was specially arranged to facilitate engagement for the KOOU delegation. Through detailed explanations, participants acquired a deeper understanding of the development of the College of Medicine and the historical evolution of major diseases, thereby bringing the two-day program to a successful conclusion.
